NSP Outdoor Emergency Care

Instructors

The NSP is a  volunteer organization. All of the instructors and assistants in our OEC course are volunteers. Most are NSP alpine or nordic patrollers, and OEC instructors. Some are instructors in other volunteer organizations, such as the American Red Cross. Our main role in the course is to create an environment where you can train yourselves and each other, by doing increasingly realistic role-playing exercises. We introduce and explain important concepts, and provide equipment, demonstrations, and feedback. But as the course progresses, you should be taking charge of your own learning, and gradually making the transition from students to colleagues. After you become patrollers, we hope that you will consider becoming OEC instructors yourselves, and help to train the next generation of patrollers.
