Requirements for certification

In order to be certified in OEC, you must pass both the written and the practical final exam. While we do not require you to attend every class, you are responsible for learning whatever you miss, especially the skills. Some classes are very difficult to make up, because they require special equipment or large groups. Another consideration is that if instructors and your patrol mentor have seen you steadily improve your skills in class, they will have a good idea of your abilities. If you then have problems on the final exam, they will be able to make a plan and a commitment to help you complete your training and be certified. If, however, you have not been attending class regularly, and you don't pass the exam, you may have trouble persuading anyone to work with you and give you a second chance.
